WILD HORSES, SERIES

The Story:

2019.
Unprecedented scale are raging in Australia.
A camera crew brings in an injured koala.
Miraculously, it has escaped the gigantic sea of flames.
It bears deep wounds.

2019
My studio in Berghausen.
A painting in the making: abstract blood-red colour space.
Deep furrows, layers of colour.

A night full of nightmares. Burning koalas. Burning nature.

Next day:

In the still unfinished blood-red painting: a horse.
Trying to escape the flaming inferno.

The result is "Australia".

It is the first of a series of eleven paintings centred on the detached elements of fire and water and the motif of the horse.
